Why Mgoun?

The beautiful, traditional villages and green valleys of the lower reaches of the Mgoun Region contrast wonderfully with the far-reaching views to be enjoyed from its remote and dramatic passes. You might choose to climb Ighil n’Oumsoud (4068m), the second highest massif in North Africa, or undertake a less strenuous challenge at a lower altitude, perhaps through the “Happy” Aït Bou Guemez Valley or maybe along the stunning Tassaout Valley. More than almost anywhere else in Morocco, the Mgoun Region offers warm Berber hospitality in local homes and a chance to gain an insight into a way of life which has remained almost unaltered for centuries. On the other hand, the region also presents some of the greatest challenges in the Atlas, including a descent through the stunning Achabou Gorges.
